Jake Virtanen cropped out of Evander Kane's fishing photos and now he's been cropped out of Oilers training camp
Earlier this week, Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane had posted some photos of the team bonding over a fishing trip. There was only one problem - Kane had cropped out a teammate from all of his photos. The teammate he cropped out? Jake Virtanen, who was with the team on a PTO.
Well now, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Virtanen has also been cropped by the Oilers coaching staff and has been released from his PTO with the team and will re-enter the UFA pool.
Virtanen was rumoured to have had PTO offers from several teams before ultimately electing to sign one with the Oilers, so it will be interesting to see whether or not anyone is interested in signing him after being released.
As many or all of you may know, Virtanen had been wrapped up in a sexual assault scandal stemming from allegations that were made by a single female complainant that outlined her unwanted sexual encounter with Virtanen back in 2017. Due to the evidence not being sufficient enough to warrant a guilty verdict, Virtanen was found not guilty this summer and was cleared of the charges.
