Prior to their game against St. Louis last night, the Arizona Coyotes announced that defenceman Jakob Chychrun would be a healthy scratch for "trade reasons". The news sent the hockey world into a frenzy with reports saying numerous teams including the Leafs had stepped up their efforts to land the star defenceman.

Later last night, Jeff Marek announced on Hockey Night in Canada that the Leafs were not the front runners nor were the Oilers. That left the LA Kings as the obvious choice and this afternoon Nick Kypreos has reported that the Kings and Coyotes have made progress on a deal.

The deal centers around 2021 8th overall pick Brandt Clarke with a few other picks, prospects and likely a roster player heading back to Arizona in exchange for Chychrun. Chychrun has 2 more years left on his current deal that has a cap hit of $4.6M per season. The Coyotes don't play again until Monday night, and would reportedly like to have a trade in place prior to puck drop.
