Bratt just finished a 2-year bridge deal which paid him $2,750,000 per season and his qualifying offer will be in the neighbourhood of $3.3M. Elliotte Friedman reported on his "32 Thoughts" podcast that his previous deal was a very contentious negotiation and that there have been limited contract talks between the two sides because both are preparing for another long and difficult negotiation.
Friedman mentioned that Bratt's last deal was more than what the Devils wanted to pay, but they got their money's worth so it could go that route again. The Devils can drag out negotiations until August arbitration if they want to as they will undoubtedly be qualifying Bratt and with $25M in cap space, they don't need to be overly worried about an offer sheet.
Should the two sides be unable to reach an agreement prior to the arbitration date, expect the Devils to at least listen to offers from interested teams.
