John Tortorella took last year off from coaching to try his hand as a hockey analyst for ESPN, but I'm sure he felt as though he is a much better fit behind the bench. That's why when the Philadelphia Flyers inked Torts to a 4-year deal recently, nobody was really all that shocked.

While we know where Torts will be for the next 4 years, barring a catastrophic run in Philly that forces him out, we also now know that there won't be a next coaching gig for Tortorella. On Monday, the veteran bench boss revealed that once his 4 years are done in Philly, he'll be retiring from coaching in the NHL.

Obviously, that's not a guarantee that he retires outright and lives out the rest of his days away from hockey. He could still accept positions in the front office and learn a different side of the business as well. Could Tortorella be eying up a management gig, much like Barry Trotz is rumoured to be mulling over now?

Could Torts pull a 180-degree turn and decide to join another broadcast team away from ESPN and resume his role as an analyst under TSN, Sportsnet or TNT? Time will tell. But I don't see Torts wandering too far away from the game.
