Kadri has a history of playoff suspensions, totalling 16 games, but in this case did nothing wrong. Unfortunately for Kadri, and once again, he has become attacked online with racial slurs and threats because of the incident. The Avalanche have been aware of the threats made against Kadri and issued the following statement, "The Avalanche organization is aware of threats made toward Nazem Kadri and is working with local law enforcement to investigate."
As the league continues to try to make the game more inclusive, this is just another example of many this season where the "old boys club" or wannabe "gatekeepers" of the game have once again shown their true colours. Kadri is a member of the fairly new Hockey Diversity Alliance, who's main goal is to make the game safe and inclusive for those of colour. The organization's founder, Akim Aliu issued a statement earlier today as well saying, "Naz has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in. Racist attacks like this have no place in hockey."
It is a truly unfortunate thing that people still stoop to such a low level at attacking, not just a professional athlete, but people in general. We as a society and hockey community need to be better and do better. Sure, you can be mad or upset at someone for what happened, whether it was incidental, or not, but there is no excuse to attack someone about their background or skin colour.
