Just yesterday, it was reported that Ilya Samsonov was listed as week-to-week with a knee injury that he suffered Saturday night against the Bruins. The injury occurred on Brad Marchand's penalty shot when Samsonov tried to recover after biting on the shot fake and fell back awkwardly.

He took to the ice yesterday with goalie coach Curtis Sanford and today, Sheldon Keefe provided a positive update on his status. "It's a positive sign that he's doing well and probably further ahead than what we might've first thought," said Keefe following practice this morning.

Erik Kallgren has been handling the starter's role with both Matt Murray and Samsonov out, and has done a decent job, but getting their big off-season signings back to stabilize the crease again will be a massive boost for the team. Matt Murray is day-to-day and likely to return this weekend, and while there was no timeline update given on Samsonov, based on Keefe's statement, he will be back sooner than expected.
