Last night, during the Edmonton Oilers' matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in Tampa, a freak accident occurred involving Evander Kane and Pat Maroon in which Maroon's skate lacerated Kane's wrist, leaving the 31-year-old in need of urgent medical attention.

Kane underwent a surgical procedure to repair the damage done and it has since been reported that he is stable and recovering. Unfortunately for Kane and the Oilers, the big winger is scheduled to miss some time and it's a pretty significant amount. Per the Oilers' official Twitter account, Kane is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 months.

As a result of his injury, the Oilers have placed Kane on LTIR. With Kane sidelined, the Oilers also announced on Wednesday that they have recalled Mattias Janmark and Klim Kostin from the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.

With the goaltending struggles that the Oilers have had to endure early on, along with the injury to Kane, the Oilers could be in the market to shuffle the deck and make a trade or two to address some of their more immediate needs. It might be necessary to keep their playoff hopes alive.
