Nick Robertson hasn't played since December 8th against the LA Kings when he suffered a shoulder injury just minutes into the game. He suffered the injury when he was hit awkwardly into the boards by defenseman Matt Roy.

Yesterday, the Leafs announced that he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. The Leafs and Robertson were hopeful that rehab would help him recover from the injury and that surgery could be avoided, but it is just another unfortunate blow for the young forward, who is expected to be out a minimum of 6 months.

Today, prior to the Leafs' morning skate, Sheldon Keefe revealed that he has been in contact with Robertson. He also revealed the message that he's sending to one of his top prospects.

"In terms of what I've said to him, it's just encouraging him. Despite the adversity he has had with his injuries, he has found ways to bounce back and show progression in his game. It hasn't seemed to have stalled him in terms of his development."

The fact that Keefe does not see any diminished development with Robertson having a number of significant injuries is a good sign. While he won't be available to help the Leafs in the postseason with any secondary scoring, the Leafs and their fans all hope that he will come into camp next season with a clean bill of health and will be able to contribute the way he was expected to this season.
