Keefe issues some excellent comments about the Leafs' effort and forcing a Game 5
Last night, the Leafs played a complete 60 minutes for the first time all series, committing to a strong two-way game and not making many mistakes. The Leafs took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period off of a William Nylander powerplay goal and made it 2-0 on a brilliant 3rd period play from Mitch Marner to move laterally and sneak a shot through that beat a screened Sergei Bobrovsky just under the arm. The Panthers did draw to within one on a 3rd period tally from Sam Reinhart, but from there, the Leafs absolutely shut the door.
Following the huge Game 4 win, which forced a Game 5 back in Toronto on Friday evening, Sheldon Keefe was complimentary of his team's complete effort at both ends of the ice, stating that he felt it was the Leafs' best effort of the season. He praised the team's competitiveness and urgency on the defensive side of the puck and also raved about the play of rookie goalie Joseph Woll. Here's what he had to say about forcing Game 5:
"We wanted to bring it back to Toronto. We want to make the opposition a little bit uncomfortable. They have to pack their stuff and fly to Toronto tomorrow. So we've done that and now we have to work towards bringing it back here." - Keefe on the Leafs hoping to carry the momentum from Game 4 over to Game 5 to try to force a Game 6 back in Florida next week
Keefe also alluded to the fact that there was such a thin margin for errors and enjoyed that fact that his players supported one another and played as a team, which was the real key to victory. He did name drop Nylander and Marner for scoring the goals, but also pointed to the fact that it doesn't matter much to him who puts the puck across the line as long as they're playing as a team and supporting one another. After all, it's not the name on the back of the jersey that matters as much as the crest that's on the front.
