After a long day of delays for the Leafs' end of season media availability, Kyle Dubas finally took the podium around 3:30pm ET. Dubas is in the final six weeks of his five-year contract and rumours have swirled around whether he will stay or go.
It was obviously one of the first questions asked when he took his place behind the podium and Dubas made a surprising statement about his future on Monday. "It will either be here, or it will be taking time to recalibrate on the season here. You won't see me next week popping up elsewhere, I can't put [my family] through that."
Essentially, Dubas is going to stay put in Toronto whether that is as GM or in a lesser role. He mentioned that this year has been extremely taxing on him and his family. He said that he will be discussing the future with his family tonight and in the coming days before speaking to Brendan Shanahan about a potential extension this week.
Should Dubas decide that he needs to take a step back, it would not be surprising to see the Leafs promote current Assistant General Manager Brandon Pridham to intern GM to prevent another team *cough* Calgary *cough* from poaching him.
