Injuries to his adductor, ankle and head kept Murray out of all but 26 starts this season. His 14-8-2 record paled in comparison to that of his counterpart, Ilya Samsonov, who posted a 27-10-5 record this season. Even rookie Joseph Woll outplayed Murray, albeit in a very small sample size, posting a 6-1-0 record in 7 appearances.
Murray spoke with the media today in what could be his final media session as a Leaf, during the Leafs' season-ending press conference. He was asked what it was like for him to have been passed over when Samsonov went down with an injury against the Panthers in Game 3. Here's what he had to say:
With Woll and Samsonov having played so well this year, that's almost certainly going to be the Leafs' tandem next year, barring any unforeseen circumstances that may arise. For Murray, there are rumours circulating that his persistent health issues could mean that he'll spend the final year of his deal on LTIR. Another option is that the Leafs could look to move the final year of his contract.
We'll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available to us.
