Last night, Dubas was at the graduation ceremonies for his alma mater, Brock University, where he received an honourary doctorate degree. During his acceptance speech, Dubas touched on many things he has learned over the years and also touched on his time with the Leafs and shared some surprising remarks about his tenure.
"On May 19th, I was fired from my job as the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs... It was the first time I've been fired," said Dubas. "As Dr. Riggs just said, embrace failure and we've had a lot of failure during my time with the Leafs."
Aside from a statement he released on Twitter, this was the first time Dubas spoke publicly about being relieved of his duties from the Leafs and the first time he openly admitted to consistently failing as the team's General Manager. It will be interesting to see what lessons Dubas takes with him to his new home in Pittsburgh.
