COVID-19 is ravaging the NHL right now, with around 10% of the entire league currently in COVID protocol, according to the latest numbers - including 7 Leafs players and two coaches. COVID has also decimated the Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, with Dubas confirming that 10 Marlies have tested positive.
With respect to the four Leafs that were originally in protocol - Spezza, Tavares, Simmonds and Kerfoot - Dubas announced that two of the players were completely asymptomatic. The other two players have shown symptoms, but Dubas did not specify which two were exhibiting symptoms. No word yet on how the other three players (Brodie, Dermott and Campbell) and two coaches (Keefe, Carbery) are doing.
At this point, it appears as though the Leafs will have to charter two flights to get all of their players home - one for the players who have tested negative and one for the players who have tested positive and are in isolation.
"We're trying to do everything we can to get everybody with their family during the holidays." said the Leafs GM.
Dubas also stated that the entire team has been rapid tested earlier today. Here's hoping that the Leafs can avoid having additional players testing positive and that the players who have tested positive can make a quick recovery without any complications.
