When you get beyond the first, maybe second round in the NHL draft, you don't normally find star players. However, with Kyle Dubas at the helm in Toronto, through the past 4 years, it seems like this has become somewhat of a regular occurrence. In recent years, Dubas has been able to assemble quite the list of mid-late round selections with legit NHL potential in Pontus Holmberg, Ryan Tverberg, Brandon Lisowsky, Nikita Grebyonkin and Ty Voit. The latter is currently playing with the Sarnia Sting and leading the OHL in points at the midway point of the season.

Voit was selected in the 5th round in the 2021 draft (153rd overall). However, this year, the 5'9, 151lb, Voit has been tearing up the OHL, proving that it doesn't matter when you are drafted, or how big or small you are. If you work hard and trust in your skills, anything is possible.

The Wexford, PA native has 60 points in 36 games thus far. Hindsight is always 20/20, but at the time when Voit was selected, COVID-19 was still running rampant, impacting players' seasons and handcuffing scouts, leaving teams to rely mostly on video to make their drafting decisions.

Voit seems to be a special player and it's been fun to see him produce at the rate at which he's been producing and putting everyone on notice. In any normal draft, a player of Voit's skill set is likely the type of player who would go in and around the 2nd round. Not a bad day at the office for Dubas, getting the now 19-year-old with the 153rd overall pick in the 2021 draft.
