Leafs fans woke up happy on Friday morning, with the Leafs having overcome some adversity and winning their contest against the Dallas Stars in front of the hometown crowd at Scotiabank Arena in style. However, their victory wasn't without controversy after Stars forward Tyler Seguin bumped into Mitch Marner and Ilya Samsonov during a third period Stars power play, resulting in the game-tying goal.

Seguin not only went hard to the net, making incidental contact with Samsonov, he also gave both Samsonov and Marner a little shove on the play, leading to the officials waving off the goal immediately. In the end, Stars head coach Pete DeBoer challenged the ruling on the ice and despite the fact that there certainly was not enough evidence to conclusively say that the contact that Seguin made with both Samsonov and shoving Marner into Samsonov didn't lead to the puck going in the net, the call on the ice was overturned and the goal was ruled a good goal.

Leafs GM Kyle Dubas, like the rest of us, was absolutely dumbfounded by the officials overturning the decision on the ice. It was a pretty cut-and-dry case of goaltender interference and once the officials did not return quickly with an easy decision, doubt began to creep into everyone's minds. Dubas was pacing up in the management box, shaking his head like he already knew what was coming. When the ruling did come back and the officials overruled the call on the ice, there were only 5 words that Dubas could muster - and it wasn't very difficult to read his lips, nor did he attempt to, in any way, hide his frustrations.

"Jesus F**king Christ.. F**k me.."

-Dubas on Tyler Seguin's third period PP goal being allowed by the officials

I'd imagine that Dubas had at least contemplated putting the officials on blast and taking the fine last night, but in the end nothing was said and once again the officials got off without even a slap on the wrist - same goes with those in the NHL's "war room" who reversed the call on the ice.

Another season, another interpretation of a rule that is as clear as mud. When will we finally have a clearly defined rule that is easy to follow from the official's perspective? When will we have something in the rulebook that both teams will be able to understand and something that isn't just at the referee's discretion?
