Dhaliwal had reported last week that he has heard that Schenn was looking for a raise, some stability in the form of a multi-year deal and some trade protection, to hopefully limit all of the moving around his family has done over the past few years.
This afternoon, a source reached out to Maple Leafs Insider to share some information on the Schenn front and if the information that we have received is correct, the two sides may be very close to announcing a deal that will keep Schenn in a Leafs sweater for next season at the very least.
This would be a solid first move for Leafs GM Brad Treliving, as it not only helps to solidify the blueline but also gives the fanbase something to be happy about, as "The Human Eraser" had quickly become a fan favourite in his second tour in Toronto.
Schenn and the longest-tenured Leaf, Morgan Rielly, formed a formidable tandem in this year's playoffs and while Schenn isn't getting any younger, he still has some quality hockey left in him. Schenn and Rielly seem to mesh well, so it will be exciting to see if they can rediscover some of the magic from this year's playoffs during the 2023-24 season.
