Unfortunately, tonight will mark the end of both the Reverse Retro 2.0 jerseys and the commemorative shoulder patches in the 2022-23 season, the team has announced. As much as I hate to see the patches come off, it's fitting. Tonight's game will be the Leafs' 5th game wearing them and Salming wore the No. 5 during international play for Team Sweden. I do wish the Reverse Retro jerseys got more than two games, though. They look fantastic and deserve more of a run than they got.
Apparently, the decision was made by jersey manufacturer Adidas and not left to the teams. It seems pretty stupid to limit the use of a jersey you're trying to sell, but I still bought one, so maybe it does work.
Leafs fans were not happy about the decision to remove the Salming patches, and if there's one thing Leafs fans are good at, its voicing their opinions.
The good news is that while the team will no longer be wearing the patch, they will be available for sale for the rest of the season, with all proceeds being donated to ALS Action Canada. All Reverse Retro sales from tonight, both online and in person, will also be going to the same organization.
