The Maple Leafs have retuned to Toronto after a long flight back from Sweden and have wasted no time in making some changes on Monday night. The Leafs
announced on Monday evening that they reassigned defenseman Simon Benoit and forward Bobby McMann to the Toronto Marlies after they accompanied the team on their trip to Sweden.

Benoit was signed by the Maple Leafs at the end of August to a one-year deal but failed to make the club outright out of training camp and was subsequently placed on waivers. He cleared and was assigned to the Marlies. He is without a point in 2 games for the Marlies and without a point in 5 games for the Maple Leafs, including both Global Series games.
McMann, on the other hand, has 2 goals and 3 points in 6 games for the Marlies and has added 2 assists in 3 games for the Leafs. McMann recorded 2 assists in his first game of the season against Vancouver but went without a point in both Global Series games.
These moves are very likely occurring to ensure that the team can remain cap compliant after activating defenseman Conor Timmins from LTIR. As we know, Timmins has been skating with the team, accompanied them on the trip to Sweden and was reportedly very close to returning, so this would make sense.
