Leafs announce jersey ad partner and it's so incredibly on-brand
We have seen several teams unveil their partnerships for jersey ads beginning for the 2022-23 season, but with this being Toronto and with nobody doing it quite like the Leafs do it, the Buds have announced that their partnership is with *checks notes* the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. That's right - the Leafs will don a patch on their jersey this season that says "Milk", and no, it's not a joke.
Does anyone else recall the Doug Gilmour milk commercials from the 90's? As someone who grew up in that era, I used to love seeing Douggie's "Got Milk?" ads on TV. One has to imagine that the decision to work with Ontario's dairy farmers has something to do with the team's past affiliation with the Ontario dairy industry.
Cheryl Smith, CEO of Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO), made the following statement on the partnership with the league's largest and most profitable Canadian franchise.
"Just as milk nourishes healthy bodies, Ontario's dairy farming families proudly nourish healthy communities, and that's been the focus of our ongoing partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Placing our Milk logo on the Leafs' sweaters is a symbol of this shared commitment, and of milk's role in building strong bodies and healthy lives."
Jordan Vader, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships, at MLSE also issued a statement on the partnership with DFO.
"Given our pride in our partnership with Dairy Farmers of Ontario, and the immense benefits of milk to both elite and everyday athletes, it's a perfect fit to see the blue-and-white Milk logo on the Maple Leafs' iconic blue-and-white sweaters. Alongside MLSE and DFO's shared values of support for grassroots initiatives, we look forward to further grow our partnership to reach the next generation of fans and give back to communities across Ontario."
Ladies and gentlemen, the Leafs.
