Among the topics that were mentioned involving the Leafs, Friedman and Marek discussed the team's goalie situation, picks and prospects that are and are not available, Travis Dermott, deadline targets, and a pair of their own third liners who have been generating some interest.
On the subject of goaltending, Friedman stated that the play of rookie Erik Kallgren has allowed the Leafs to take a deep breath. Kallgren has appeared in just 3 games for the Leafs, boasting a 2-0-1 record and will also get the nod in Saturday's game in Nashville. His play has likely taken the Leafs out of the goalie market.
With regard to the Leafs' picks and prospects, we know that Dubas prefers to retain his 2022 first rounder after dealing first rounders in 2 of the last 3 years. He also doesn't want to deal any top prospects for a rental. Friedman did mention, however, that Travis Dermott is on the block in Toronto.
Perhaps the most interesting thing Friedman mentioned is that he has heard that the Leafs have received calls on both Pierre Engvall and Ilya Mikheyev and the teams who have called have been told "no" on both players.
With how well the Leafs' third line of Engvall, Kampf and Mikheyev has played this season, it's no wonder that Dubas is not interested in making a change there. He is, however, looking to improve the 4th line.
