William Nylander scored his 30th goal of the season just nine seconds into last night's win over Chicago, putting him just four back of his career high. Nylander finished the game with a goal and two assists as he collected another multi-point game, which is seemingly becoming the norm for him. Against Columbus last week, Nylander took a roughing penalty as he was unhappy how he got hit late after taking a shot. The penalty drew some comical comments from Sheldon Keefe and teammates.

Rasmus Sandin has made it a point lately to razz Nylander in his interviews as the two have become very good friends over the years. Last night following the Leafs' win Sandin burned Nylander yet again jokingly calling out his defensive play by saying, "He's back-checking. Finally."

Keefe has mentioned a few times in the past that he has wanted Nylander to be more engaged in the game when he doesn't have the puck and it finally seems like he is doing what Keefe has asked and is being rewarded. This season, Nylander has been the Leafs' best player more often than not. His defensive play has grown immensely this year and it has helped him offensively as he is already just 5 goals away from setting a new career high and is just 17 points from surpassing his career-best point total of 80 that he set last season as he has 64 points in just 55 games this season.
