Leafs defenseman flattens Habs captain, but what happens next will give you a chuckle
There was a lot of offense in the Leafs' dominant 7-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens, so it was easy to overlook some of the other plays that wound up in the highlight package. Take, for example, this huge hit by Mark Giordano on Habs captain Nick Suzuki. While the hit itself was a decent one, it's what happened after that is pretty unusual. Gio actually picks up Suzuki's stick and hands it back to him as the two players get up and skate back up down the ice to re-join the play.
Giordano is a good, physical, veteran guy, but he's also a sportsman. He isn't going to cheat for offense, he isn't going to take liberties on other players and, more than anything else, he conducts himself with a certain level of integrity and fair play. It wasn't surprising to see him pass the stick back to Suzuki, but there's no denying that someone like Matthew Tkachuk, Brad Marchand or even his own teammate, Michael Bunting, would have likely just accidentally on purpose tossed Suzuki's stick and made him get it himself.
