Today, Pride parades are happening around the world. In many places, Toronto included, it happens for the first time in two years. Thousands of people flooded city streets everywhere in celebration, and the NHL's participation grows each year.
The last time a Pride parade was held in Toronto, we saw the Leafs' Kyle Dubas and Morgan Rielly in attendance.
This year, the Leafs in attendance were Michael Bunting, Morgan Rielly, Mark Giordano, and Brendan Shanahan. Even former Leafs GM Brian Burke joined the celebration, looking as pleased as ever.
The NHL and each individual franchise's welcome adoption of their #hockeyisforeveryone movement is heartwarming to see. But, with a dark underbelly of sexual assault investigations occurring the past few years, including the ongoing investigations into Hockey Canada, it's clear beneath the surface (or oftentimes, at the top of comment sections) hockey still has a long way to go.
