Leafs goalie prospect comes up with a pair of highlight reel saves, adds to his spectacular season totals
Until they drafted and developed Joseph Woll, the Toronto Maple Leafs hadn't had a legitimate goaltender developed in-house in what seems like an eternity. However, now the organization has a few guys blossoming in the system, one of which being Dennis Hildeby, a 6'7 Swedish netminder who has been turning heads with his tremendous play in the American Hockey League.
Hildeby has amassed a 3-2-1 record to begin his season, which is hardly spectacular, but his peripheral numbers are what have really stood out. Hildeby, through 6 games, is sporting a 1.51 GAA and a .941 SV% and last night, while being edged out by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Hildeby came up with a pair of sensational saves, which can be seen below, and stopped 32 of 34 shots on the evening, posting a .941 SV% in the contest, providing another quality start.
While Hildeby lost this one, it was through no fault of his own. The Marlies lacked goal support for their goaltender, allowing the Phantoms to edge them out 2-1 in regulation time. There aren't many games that a team loses where you can find a lot to celebrate, however, Hildeby's performance in this one is certainly deserving of celebrating.
The Leafs appear to have a good one in "The Hildebeast".
