There were a number of intriguing players on this list aside from O'Connell that could be enticing for the Maple Leafs including John Farinacci, Robert Mastrosimone and Jay O'Brien.
Farinacci is 22-years-old, was drafted in the 3rd round during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and has put up decent numbers over the last 3 seasons with Harvard University that includes 25 goals and 61 points in 79 games.
Mastrosimone is 22-years-old as well, drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 NHL Entry draft, and is coming off a 42-point campaign in just 38 games for Arizona State University.
O'Brien is 23-years-old and was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft but was always seen as a reach by the Flyers. He spent the last 3 seasons with Boston University and seemingly turned a corner after a troubling few seasons post-draft. He has 26 goals and 70 points in his last 79 games.
The Leafs have a very shallow reserve list due to not signing prospects over the last few seasons, as well as not drafting in abundance either. Signing a couple o these players could add to their pipeline and depth and would come at a very cheap cost.
Of course, the Leafs are currently at 48/50 NHL contracts, so they won't be able to sign more than 2 more players this summer unless they make some corresponding moves to free up additional contract slots.
***as an update, Farinacci has signed with the Boston Bruins***
