Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs loaned Joey Anderson, Joseph Woll and Pontus Holmberg to the Toronto Marlies. What wasn't mentioned in their original PR announcement was another roster move made today. The NHL doesn't allow teams to carry less than two goaltenders at a time. Woll being sent down while Matt Murray is on IR meant the Leafs had to bring someone up.

Erik Källgren has been added to the Leafs roster on paper. Time will tell whether or not he will remain with the team or if he is being used as a placeholder while Woll gets an extra start with the Marlies before the Leafs play on Wednesday. Källgren enjoyed a stint with the Leafs earlier this season, but his 3-2-4 record and .898 SV% weren't enough to keep his position as the third string netminder after Woll returned from injury. Woll's stellar play moved him back up the depth chart.

It's not likely that Källgren will see any game action before being sent back to the Marlies. He's the clear number 4 in the organization right now, if he wants to retake the third string job, he will have to earn himself another opportunity by excelling at the AHL level. Until then, the opportunity is Woll's to lose.
