Drafted fifth overall by the Leafs over a decade ago, Luke Schenn has found himself to be quite the hot commodity leading up to this year's trade deadline. A two-time Stanley Cup winner and the NHL's all-time leader in hits among defensemen, Schenn has become a stabilizing third pairing blueliner in the latter stages of his career.

The next couple of weeks leading up to the deadline will be tense for Schenn and his wife as she is currently pregnant. Schenn would like to be traded as soon as possible so that his wife is still able to fly and that they can get settled into their new home before the baby arrives. He has heard his name in rumours for the past few months, but now, reports indicate that a bidding war has begun.

The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta has reported that talks are intensifying around the hulking blueliner, who is a UFA at the end of the season and makes just $850K. Pagnotta reports that the updated asking price for Schenn is a "3rd+" meaning that the price starts with a third rounder and likely another asset. Pagnotta also reports that Schenn's former team, Tampa Bay, is out of the bidding war, while Calgary and Boston have stepped up their efforts to land the two-time Cup champ. The Leafs have also been linked to Schenn in recent weeks.
