With Matt Murray's status for Sunday's game in question and the Leafs potentially needing a backup goalie in case he misses more time, it might finally be time for Joseph Woll to get the call-up from the Toronto Marlies.

The 24-year-old has been enjoying a sublime season at the AHL level with a 12-1-0 record, while posting a .928 SV% and a 2.46 GAA He had a taste at the NHL level last year when started 4 games, posted a 3-1-0 record, and a surprisingly strong .911 SV% for a rookie.

He's been playing some fantastic hockey for the Marlies this season, having bounced back from a 2022 calendar year in which he was riddled with injuries. Since returning, the organization has been applauding him left, right, and center. While most would assume that Erik Kallgren stands to receive the call-up, given his level of NHL experience, Woll may have played his way into the first call-up. The Buds also have Keith Petruzzelli in the mix as well.

Petruzzelli is 9-4-0 but has a 3.02 GAA and a .901 SV%, while Kallgren, at the AHL-level, is 5-3-0 with a 3.30 GAA and a .874 SV% - essentially numbers far below those of Woll. Sheldon Keefe said he's uncertain whether or not the Buds will recall anyone. Once they receive the information and know the status of Murray, Keefe says they'll act accordingly.
