According to the Fourth Period, the Toronto Maple Leafs are among several teams to have shown interest in Chicago Blackhawks forward Dylan Strome. It's become well known that new Chicago management wants to tear the team down to the studs, including, somewhat surprisingly, trading away players that have yet to reach their prime. It started with Brandon Hagel at the deadline and should extend to Alex DeBrincat and Strome as well.

Strome would be an ideal fit for the Leafs' second line given the fact that he can play left wing and center. It has been reported the Leafs may look at shifting John Tavares to the wing as early as this coming season. Strome is coming off of a 2-year deal that saw him earn $3M per season and is currently an RFA. After putting up just 17 points in the 2020-21 season Strome bounced back putting up 48 points in 69 games this past season.

At just 25 years old, Strome still has not reached his full potential, but his ability to provide some depth both at center and on the wing make him a worthwhile target. The issue becomes the salary that both Strome would want on a new deal and how the Leafs fit it under the cap. Of course the Leafs would have to move some bodies out to accommodate Strome and give up valuable draft picks and prospects to satisfy Chicago's plans as well.
