Leafs prospect Matthew Knies scores ridiculous OT winner
He appears to be far and away the Leafs' best prospect and 2021 second round pick Matthew Knies had his coming out party at the University of Minnesota last season as a freshman. Skating in 33 games, the now 20-year-old put up 15 goals and 33 points. A unique combination of size and skill, Knies at times looks like a man amongst boys.
Expectations were high for Knies heading into his second season with the University of Minnesota, but so far, Knies has delivered. In 5 games he's a point-per-game player with 3 goals and 2 assists, including a ridiculous individual effort last night against North Dakota.
It's expected that Knies will join the Leafs at the end of the NCAA season which will depend how far the Golden Gophers go in the Frozen Four tournament. Just don't expect Knies to jump in and rack up the points right away though, as he'll need some time to adjust.
