For Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov, it's been a long and difficult year-and-change since being diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has endured round after round of treatment and while he was originally expected to return to action this season, it's looking increasingly likely that he will, in fact, miss the entire 2022-23 season - though, let's be honest.. that's the least of anyone's concerns. The primary concern remains the overall health and wellness of the 21-year-old.

Every year, in early February, World Cancer Day is observed and celebrated by many. On Wednesday, ahead of their matchup, Avangard and Salavat Yulaev honoured Amirov by wearing special World Cancer Day jerseys to support him in his continued fight.

Amirov has been supported greatly by the Maple Leafs organization, his current KHL club, Salavat Yulaev and the rest of the hockey community. A number of Russian NHL players even wrote Rodion Amirov's name on their "Hockey Fights Cancer" month banners, revealing who they "fight for". This World Cancer Day celebration was a classy move by Avangard and Salavat and one I'm sure that Amirov and his family greatly appreciate.

According to Puck Pedia just a few weeks ago, an Amirov update was expected at some point in February. If the Leafs did receive any news on Amirov, they have not yet shared it with the public. As of this moment, Puck Pedia has an estimated return date for Amirov set as July 15, 2023 - though, at this point, it's far more likely that that's simply a re-evaluation date.

We wish Rodion the best in his continued fight. Hoping for the best possible news on his situation this summer.
