For Easton Cowan, prior to his first NHL training camp, the thought process was that he was always bound to return to the London Knights in the OHL at some point. While many expected it to be early in camp, a string of solid performances led to Cowan sticking around longer than expected.

Cowan was among the final cuts to the Leafs' roster, allowing him to spend as much time with the NHL group as possible before being cut to help the Leafs become cap compliant before the start of the season. Since going down to the OHL, Cowan has been more than good. He's been excellent.

Last night, during a game against the Brantford Bulldogs, Cowan absolutely went off, recording 2 goals and 2 assists for a total of 4 points in a 5-1 win. One of Cowan's tallies was a shorthanded marker and both of his assists were primary assists. He also posted a +4 rating, 4 penalty minutes and went 5/12 in the faceoff dot, despite being listed as a left winger.

The Leafs' 2023 1st round draft pick (28th overall) now has 9 points through his first 4 games of the season (4G, 5A), has won 26 faceoffs, fired 14 pucks at the net, has scored 2 shorthanded goals, 1 game-winning goal and currently sits at 2.25 points per game. Not bad for a guy who may thought was a reach at 28th overall in the draft.
