TSN's Bar Down crew had an opportunity to sit down with the Leafs recently and ask them a bunch of questions about their teammates in a segment called "Anyone Can Do That!". The questions were interesting, to say the least, and also solicited some excellent responses.
The first question on the list was, "who would make the best wedding guest?". Surprisingly, most of the team was united in that Mitch Marner would probably make the best wedding guest, though Ryan Reaves decided to put his own picture up on the board, stating that he's always the guy who gets things going at weddings, also subtly bragging about his dance moves.
The next question also contained a lot of Reavo and Mitchy responses. "Who would be most likely to start a podcast?"
Most Leafs picked Reaves, but Reavo said he believed Marner would do a great job. When asked about the idea of running a podcast together, Marner said they could make good co-hosts, but that it probably wouldn't be a hockey podcast if they did opt to start one.
The next question involved more of an on-ice theme. "Teammate most likely to flex his stick after a missed chance?" Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mark Giordano were the most popular answers here. Morgan Rielly was harping on Giordano pretty good with this one, at one point even telling Gio that "a Samurai never blames his sword".
As far as who might get into a sports analyst role on TV after their career, Domi and Reaves seem to be the two guys who would be best suited for such a role - though Auston Matthews was sold on the idea that Mark Giordano would be far and away the best guy for the job.
Auston Matthews was quick to establish that he is the teammate who cares most about fresh gloves, with several other Leafs confirming it. Matthews indicated during the session that he sometimes changes gloves 2, 3, or even 4 times per period, which can equate to as many as 12 times per game.
One of the more fun questions on the list was "Teammate that's ripped through the most dress pants?". Naturally, guys were quick to call each other out here, but Rielly, Reaves and Domi received some votes, while Marner had actually admitted that he actually did rip his pants at former Leaf Tyler Bozak's wedding.
One question that I expected to be a lot more contentious than it actually ended up being was "Teammate most likely to win a gold medal?" Naturally, John Tavares tooted his own horn at the beginning, alluding to his own Olympic Gold medal, but the popular answers here were obviously Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
As far as the teammate with the nicest watch goes, there were a variety of answers here, but Nylander, Rielly and Matthews were all said to have had some pretty stylish watches in their collections.
One of the last few questions that was asked was about which teammate would claim that they're 6 feet tall but they're not. Both Max Domi and Mitch Marner picked themselves and most agreed - though Jake McCabe selected Timothy Liljegren. This one was perhaps the easiest question to answer because the Leafs don't have a lot of players under 6 feet on the team.
When it comes to getting to know the players and seeing their personalities, I truly wish players showed more of their own individual personality during interviews. I suppose a lot of the personality factor has to do with the questions that they're asked and also depend on whether or not the interview is taking place after a win/loss or during a time where they're focused on the game ahead and not so much on the media side of things. Either way, these inside looks at the team are always fun.
