The Toronto Maple Leafs announced a trade on the eve of the NHL's holiday trade freeze, acquiring left winger Dryden Hunt from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for depth winger Denis Malgin.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as the Malgin's name has not been involved in any trade rumours thus far this season. However, Malgin has struggled to get his name on the scoresheet with the Leafs this season after a very strong pre-season performance.

In Dryden Hunt, the Leafs are getting a bigger body who plays a much more physical game than Malgin. Hunt stands 6'0 and weighs 193 lbs. He has registered 69 hits so far this season, despite playing just under 8 minutes per night.

Hunt, 27, has just one lone goal this season, so he's not necessarily a more productive player than Malgin, who has recorded just 4 points in 23 games. Hunt has played for 4 teams in his career, including stops in Florida, Arizona and New York before landing in Colorado after being claimed off of waivers back in October.

Hunt will be a UFA at season's end.
