Leafs recall a goaltender on an emergency basis
Coming into tonight's game against the Boston Bruins, it was really anyone's guess who the Leafs were going to start in goal, especially with how well Joseph Woll has been playing of late.
Woll has started 3 straight games for the Leafs and has stopped 32 or more pucks in his last 4 starts. With how much he had been playing, though, many had speculated that Ilya Samsonov would get the nod to give Woll a bit of a breather. However, not only will Samsonov not start in this one - he's not even going to dress.
The Maple Leafs announced on Saturday morning that they have recalled goaltender Martin Jones on an emergency basis. Jones is expected to back up Woll, as Samsonov deals with an undisclosed illness.
Jones has not had a great start in the American Hockey League, starting in just 5 games, posting a 2-1-1 record, with a putrid 3.37 GAA and a forgettable .870 SV%.
As a 3rd string goalie, the Leafs aren't going to need to rely on Jones much, thankfully. However, he's still a nice piece to have with his 444 games of NHL experience.
