On Thursday, the Leafs gave up a two-goal lead in the third period to the Seattle Kraken. The game went to a shootout with Toronto coming out on top for their 12th win of the season.
The team has failed to put their best foot forward on a consistent basis this season, with countless flaws rearing their ugly heads on a nightly basis. The Leafs lead the league with eight bench minors for too-many-men on the ice and as embarrassing as that is, they're also giving up a TON of goals within a couple minutes of scoring.
Credit Anothy Pappas, who did some digging into the numbers. Toronto has surrendered a goal 12 separate times within 3-minutes of scoring a goal this season.
If the Leafs continue to have these mental gaffes, general manager Brad Treliving will need to step in and change the makeup of this roster. They simply can't continue on the way they are now. It's unsustainable. A 12-6-3 record may look alright on paper at the moment, but if they keep shooting themselves in the foot and blowing leads the way they have been, that can turn into 12-12-3 in a hurry.
