Baun, like Amirov, had reportedly not been doing very well healthy-wise for awhile before his passing, so we should take some solace in knowing that their suffering is over. Leafs Nation has come together in this time of great loss and rallied around the families of Amirov and Baun, offering their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers.
Baun was responsible for one of the most incredible moments in Maple Leafs history, scoring a huge overtime goal for the Leafs in 1964 to help the team secure its 3rd consecutive Stanley Cup. He did so on a broken ankle. On Thursday, the Leafs released a touching tribute video in honour of Baun's lengthy career as a Leaf to say goodbye to a legend. You can watch the clip below:
Amirov's tenure with the Leafs wasn't long and decorated like Baun's was, but I'd imagine that the team will be putting together something special for Amirov at some point here as well.
