Everyone knows just how heated the Washington Capitals/Pittsburgh Penguins rivalry has been over the years. Now, new Pens addition Erik Karlsson is about to learn the hard way just how heated that rivalry can be. Unfortunately for him, he'll have someone very dangerous out there looking for his number.

Capitals winger Tom Wilson recently signed a new 7-year extension worth $45.5M in Washington and appeared on TSN 1050. He was asked about the Penguins, and their acquisition of Karlsson. Wilson tipped his hat to Karlsson, whom he believes is an elite player, but added that he's a rival now and will be a target this season as the Caps look to disrupt what he'll attempt to bring to Pittsburgh.

"Karlsson's obviously an elite talent and someone that, as a hockey player, you always kind of enjoy watching play. He's super skilled and does things that are next level. But at the end of the day, he's a rival now and we'll try and make his life difficult back there." - Tom Wilson

Karlsson is no stranger to being a target. He has been one of the top players in both Ottawa and San Jose during his time in the league, with the opposition always looking for his number out there. However, avoiding Tom Wilson 5 or 6 times per year in the Metropolitan Division may not be the easiest task. Karlsson had better keep his head up in the neutral zone and take an extra look over his shoulder in the defensive zone.
