Leafs star finally receives some acknowledgement from the NHL after being snubbed for All-Star Game
Since January 17th, William Nylander has 12 points (6-6) in 7 games and is up to 28 goals and 59 points in just 51 games on the season. He will surely pass his career highs in goals (34) and points (80), both of which he set last season. Unfortunately, his season is still apparently not good enough to get his first All-Star selection.
Following the injury to Auston Matthews last week, many expected Nylander to be named his replacement, but of course, the NHL decided that the Panthers needed another representative there and named Aleksander Barkov as Matthews' replacement. As a consolation prize, Nylander was awarded the NHL's second star of the week, registering 7 points in 4 games.
Nylander is currently tied with Mitch Marner for the team lead in points with 59 and has a 3 goal lead on Matthews for first on the team in goals. What's most impressive about Nylander this season though, is how much more engaged he is in puck battles and defensively. Nylander should be at the All-Star Game this weekend, but I doubt he will have any issues sitting on a beach somewhere.
