Leafs star struck in face by a point shot and immediately heads down the tunnel
The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't had the most ideal start to the season, currently sitting 10-6-3 through their first 19 games of the season and, unfortunately, they may have just lost Mitch Marner to an injury as well.
Just past the halfway mark of the first period, Marner was back in his own defensive zone as the Leafs looked to stave off a scoring chance from the Panthers when he was struck in the face by a puck that was fired from the point.
Marner went down in a heap immediately, in obvious distress. The puck appeared to strike him directly in the side of the face, right around the jaw-area. The play was immediately blown dead and Marner headed straight down the tunnel.
Mark Giordano also not on the bench. We'll provide an update here as soon as one is made available.
***Update at 8:02pm - Marner back on the ice donning a full cage***
