After a rough start to the season for Ilya Samsonov and a red hot one for Joseph Woll, tonight's starting goaltender should be obvious. At practice today, Joseph Woll occupied the starter's net ahead of the Leafs' Thursday night showdown in Dallas against the Stars.
Woll was fantastic in relief of Ilya Samsonov against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, stopping all 27 shots he faced in the Leafs' comeback win. He was absolutely stellar on Tuesday night, holding the Capitals to just one goal on 38 shots and stopping 13 of 14 shots from Alex Ovechkin. He owns a 2-1 record this season with a sparkling .958sv%. For now, it seems the net is his.
Scott Wedgewood is the projected starter for the Stars, robbing us of a showdown between Woll and his former World Juniors teammate Jake Oettinger. As for the Leafs, their forward lines and defence pairings remain the same as they were in Washington. Fraser Minten will sit once again while Pontus Holmberg remains in the lineup. Puck drop is at 8PM Eastern!
