For the first game of the season against Montreal, the Leafs went with Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness". The song brought forth mixed reviews, but after concerns were raised with the team that the lyrics of the song were not appropriate for listeners of all ages, promoting driving under the influence, the team took a step back and removed it from their rotation.
For their second game, against Minnesota, the Leafs tried out "Dup Dup" by Mickey Krause. This time around, fans felt as though the Leafs may be onto something with the song containing a very engaging chant portion, which could have had fans join in for the "hey, hey, hey!" part, but Monday's goal song against Chicago may very well have been the best one yet.
While the Leafs only scored one goal on Monday, as opposed to the 12 that they had scored in the previous two games combined, the goal song they used against the Hawks seemed to really get the fans going. The song was "Panama" by Van Halen.
It's anyone's guess what the plan will be moving forward. Will the Leafs continue to use a rotating track list? Will they listen to the fanbase and select the most popular option? Will they simply switch to a system where each player has their own individual goal track? That remains to be seen.
Just tossing this out there as my own personal opinion - but "Panama" absolutely slaps as a goal song.
