Brooks was waived by the Leafs back in October after failing to grab ahold of a roster spot out of training camp. He was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens, with whom he had played just 4 games before being waived once again and claimed by Vegas.
A 4th round pick (92nd overall) in 2016, Brooks appeared in just 7 games for the Golden Knights before he found himself back on the waiver wire, where he was reclaimed by the team with which he got his NHL start.
The hope here is obviously that since Brooks made it all the way down to Toronto in the waiver order that perhaps there were no other claims put in on him and he might clear this time around. Since Vegas had waived Brooks to clear a spot for the return of Jack Eichel, it stands to reason that they will not claim him again, and the Habs, well, they obviously did not like what they saw in Brooks in his limited time there.
If Brooks clears waivers, he will be eligible to be assigned to the Toronto Marlies and can move up and down between the NHL and the AHL freely for the next 30 days without having to worry about clearing waivers again.
The Leafs had assigned rookie defenseman Timothy Liljegren to the Marlies on Wednesday to open up a spot for Brooks. Does this mean we'll see Liljegren back up with the Leafs tomorrow, or is this a precursor to another move? The plot thickens.
