It is no secret, the Vancouver Canucks have struggled this season. They currently sit sixth in the Pacific division and are twelve points out of a wildcard playoff birth. Additionally, they have lost their last four games. With that in mind, it seems fairly likely the team will look to sell at this years trade deadline. One interesting piece is Luke Schenn, as he is currently in the last year of his contract.

As reported by Elliotte Friedman last night during the Leafs second intermission, the Tampa Bay Lightning are interested in acquiring him. Of course, Schenn won two Cups with the Bolts (2020 & 2021).

Schenn was originally drafted in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2008 NHL entry draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The heavy hitting defensemen made the Leafs roster in his first training camp, and played four seasons for the team. In 2012, he was traded to the Flyers for forward James Van Riemsdyk. After playing four seasons in Philadelphia, he had stops in Los Angeles, Arizona, Anaheim, Vancouver and Tampa Bay.

After winning two Cups with the Bolts, he has found himself in Vancouver. Schenn currently leads the league in hits, with 193. He would be an ideal fit for any team looking to add depth and toughness to their blueline.

The Leafs are also rumoured to have interest in Schenn, as he fills a need on the blueline. This one may come down to who wants him more and who is willing to pay the Canucks the most to get a deal done.
