In the first period of Game 4 on Monday night, William Nylander was assessed a minor penalty for tripping. It wasn't a conventional trip however, as Nylander kicked out the feet of Steven Stamkos along the boards in a "fly by" that sent the Lightning captain spiraling to the ice. The Lightning would capitalize on the power play with Alex Killorn scoring his first goal of the series.

Later in the game, the always annoying Corey Perry did the same thing to Jake McCabe in front of the Leafs' net and no penalty was called. Some may look at the replay and say that Perry's was more innocent than Nylander's but Jon Cooper spoke to the media last week and said that there is nothing accidental about what Perry does.

The officiating through the series and the playoffs in general has been, for the most part, atrocious again this year and for the same play to be a penalty on one team and not the other is very questionable. However, Game 4 was probably the most evenly officiated game between the Leafs and Lightning in this series thus far, and the Leafs did come away with the win, so I suppose we should focus on the positives.
