Weegar came over to Calgary, along with Jonathan Huberdeau, a conditional 1st round pick and a prospect in exchange for famed agitator and 2nd generation NHL star Matthew Tkachuk, who is now locked in for the next 8 years in Florida. Since the deal went down, Huberdeau has also inked an 8-year extension with the Flames and Weegar too is edging closer towards extending in Calgary. Here's what the underrated defender had to say about the new-look Flames.
I know he likely didn't mean it as a parting shot at his former team, but anytime a player compares a current situation to a former one, you can't help but thing that perhaps there are some unresolved issues and some hurt feelings there - especially when it's a trade and not a free agency split.
Weegar confirmed earlier this week that he and the Flames have been hard at work ironing out the details of a new contract. The 28-year-old blueliner all but stated that a deal will be done prior to the start of the season.
