Huberdeau has already inked a massive 8-year deal, which carries a $10.5M AAV beginning in 2023-24, while Weegar remains focused on getting his extension with the Flames done, hopefully before the start of the season. For both players, this season triggers a fresh start and a chance to make some noise in the Western Conference.
This past week, Weegar had a chance to speak with the media in Calgary during the Flames' annual charity golf tourney, and he gave Flames fans a pretty good indication of what to expect from Huberdeau this season. Elite passes, each and every night. He did it in a pretty candid and humorous way as well, revealing a bit of insight as to how Huberdeau's mind works - even when others can't think the game the same way.
The struggles of being an elite playmaker in the best league in the world. Huberdeau put up a league-leading 85 assists last season and 115 points. If you think that's enough to satisfy him, obviously it's not. For a guy who's that competitive and who wants to generate as much offense as possible, settling for less than the maximum effort is just not in the cards. I'd imagine that every team would love a guy like that on their roster. Thankfully for the Flames, they just landed one.
