On Sunday, we received the news that Andersen has been medically cleared to resume skating after he was ruled out indefinitely back in November. Although he has finally been medically cleared to resume activities, he is still about a month away from returning to game action.
On the season, Andersen sports a 4-1-0 record through 6 games with a 2.87 G.A.A and a .894 SV%. The Hurricanes goaltending has floundered a little in his absence with Antti Raanta clearing waivers earlier today after a dismal performance this season and Pyotr Kochetkov barely keeping things afloat with a .890 SV% and a 2.77 G.A.A.
In his first 2 seasons with the Hurricanes, Andersen posted a 56-25-4 record with a 2.29 G.A.A. and a .915 SV% through 86 games. He also appeared in 9 post-season games last year, going 5-3 with a 1.83 G.A.A. and a .927 SV% but has struggled to remain healthy and in the lineup.
Since 2021-22, Andersen has dealt with 8 different ailments or injuries that have forced him out of the lineup.
The former Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs netminder established himself as a solid number one option after going 226-100-48 with a 2.65 G.A.A and a .915 SV% through his first 8 seasons in the NHL.
