Jake Muzzin suffered what the Maple Leafs revealed was a neck injury Monday night against Arizona and the injury didn't look great. While Muzzin won't be seeing game action this week it doesn't appear that the injury won't keep him out long-term.

Today the Leafs announced they have placed Muzzin on injured reserve, freeing up a roster spot to recall Marlies' blueliner Filip Kral, who had a very good training camp. The Leafs will not gain any cap space by placing Muzzin on IR as IR means the player is out a minimum 7 days. Long term IR means the player is out 24 days and/or 10 games and the team is given cap relief. This is positive news for Muzzin and for the Leafs. Muzzin will likely be re-evaluated in a weeks time to see how he is progressing and at that point the Leafs will have the option to transfer him to LTIR.

The Leafs also signed NHL veteran defenceman Danny DeKeyser to an AHL tryout with the Marlies earlier this morning and he will now fill the hole left by Kral's call up.
