Kelsie, Cohen and Willa Snow, the family of Calgary Flames Assistant GM Chris Snow, who was diagnosed with ALS and given 1 year to live THREE YEARS AGO, are promoting the #weaksidestrong challenge on social media. Basically, how it works is much like how the ice bucket challenge worked. Capture yourself doing something you love with your opposite hand or foot, post photos or videos to social media and tag your friends, nominating them to do the same and donate at WeakSideStrong.org. For more on this initiative, see the video below or click on the hyperlink above.
So how does this tie into the Leafs? Well, young Willa Snow, nominated former Flames captain Mark Giordano to take part in the challenge. Giordano obliged by posting a video of himself firing 3 one-timers right-handed. Giordano, a noted lefty, then tagged 3 friends (including another former Leaf, Matt Stajan), nominating them for the challenge as well.
I'd encourage everyone who reads this article to take part in the #weaksidestrong challenge, even if you are not in a financial position to donate. For the longest time, ALS was a death sentence, and while it still very much is, the research that was funded through initiatives like the ice bucket challenge has gone a long way in establishing innovative new treatments to help battle the deadly condition. This challenge is a fun new way to contribute to the cause and help people like Chris and his family have more time. Eventually, there may come a time where this research and these new treatments could lead to a cure for ALS, but the only way for us to get there is together.
